After the instrument itself, the room is the most impactful element of a recording session. Northwest Live has two professionally treated spaces for recording and mixing.

The 13×13 “booth” is built with professional acoustic isolation techniques and professional interior treatment, providing extraordinary isolation with an ultra-low noise floor.

The “lounge”, in which I engineer sessions and mix in post-production, is professionally treated for listening and recording. It’s a fantastic space for mixing, managing sessions, and tracking guitars. It’s a comfortable space to relax and listen to the result of your hard work.

Universal Audio Apollo forms the foundation of the recording configuration, supplemented with SSL Pure Drive and UA 710D outboard preamps, ensure no unwanted artifacts.

The mic locker at Northwest Live Studios includes a variety of options from workhorses like the SM57 to high-end U-87 or TLM 103 from Neumann. Dynamics, large-diaphragm condensers, small-diaphragm condensers, and ribbon, we’ve got a mic for you.

My instruments reflect my eclectic background as a musician. I’ve got 6- and 12-string acoustics from Matin and Taylor. A high-end 6-string from Balaguer, a Schecter 7-string, and a Shuriken that integrates with the studio’s Helix system. And basses with four, five, six, and even seven strings, with and without frets, even and upright electric.

The drums are the crown jewel. The main kit is a DW Performance Series 5-piece from their LA Custom Shop. Ludwig Black Beauty snare. Zildjian cymbals. The second kit is an Alchemy from Zildjian - a hybrid acoustic/electric kit that can be played either way.
